Yihan Chen     Pipa soloist

Born in Wenzhou, China, Ms. Chen started leaning  Pipa when she was eight years old. She was exclusively chosen for the Pipa major by the Middle School Affiliated to China Conservatory of Music in Beijing in 1985. Ms. Chen was admitted to the China Conservatory in 1991. She studied with Pipa master Wu Junsheng, Wang Fandi and Liu Dehai. She also studied Guzheng with Master Qiu Dacheng and Li Wanfeng. After graduating from the conservatory with Bachelor's degree in 1995, Ms. Chen was offered a Pipa instructor position to the  Middle School Affiliated to China Conservatory of Music.

In 1989, Ms. Chen won the 3rd  prize  in the 1st International ART Cup Chinese Traditional Instruments Competition. 
In 1995, she won the 3rd  prize in Freedom International Chinese Music Competitions.

Ms. Chen was a Pipa soloist of the Beijing's Huaxia Ensemble and Music From China in NYC. She  has performed in China, France, USA, Portugal, Poland, Canada, Japan, and Italy at major international festivals and in many major concert halls, such at Carnegie Hall, Merkin Concert Hall, the Library of Congress. Chen has collaborated with internationally renowned composers such as Chen Yi, Zhou Long , Chen Qigang and Bright Sheng. She currently performs  throughout the United States and has given lectures on Chinese traditional music in colleges.

Ms. Chen 's recordings include The Brahmin, Three Images Of Laughter (Hugo); Time to Listen (Ellipsis Arts); Zhou Long-Talse From the Cave, and Hua Xia (Delos).

Currently Ms. Chen is living with her family in Simsbury,Connecticut.
